Lawlor Construction Timeline
Early 1900s
Lawlor Construction had its beginnings in Ireland, where Michael J. Lawlor was born and raised. It was there that he honed his skills as a carpenter working for his father’s construction company. As the second son, he sought better opportunities by moving to the United States in the early 1900s.
1924 to 1955
After moving to St. Louis and working as a carpenter, Michael J. Lawlor established his own general contracting firm in 1924 under the name “Michael J. Lawlor – Builder.” From 1924 through 1955, he focused the company’s operations on the construction of new schools and churches for the Archdiocese of St. Louis, as well as numerous state and federal government projects. He proceeded to teach his son, Gerald T. Lawlor, the same old-world carpentry craftsmanship upon which he had built his business, instilling a sense of true pride in his finished work.
1955 to 2001
Following the passing of Michael J. Lawlor, Gerald T. Lawlor took over the construction company at the age of 20, shortly after serving in the Korean War. In 1955, he changed the firm’s name to “G. T. Lawlor, Contractor,” and subsequently incorporated the business in 1959 as “G. T. Lawlor Construction Co, Inc.” Gerald T. Lawlor had three sons: Gerald T. Lawlor, Jr., Michael G. Lawlor, and Patrick N. Lawlor. Each expressed an interest in the construction industry at an early age, and Gerald T. Lawlor trained them just as his father had trained him.
2001 to 2026
In 2001, Gerald, Jr., Michael, and Patrick purchased the company in equal shares, and the name was changed to “Lawlor Corporation.” They successfully managed the company together for 25 years until their retirement.
2026
Following the retirement of the Lawlor brothers, Michael Lawlor, Jr. has assumed the role of President, and we are now officially operating as Lawlor Construction, LLC. Despite these changes, we remain dedicated to the values and quality that have defined our family business for over a century. We look forward to continuing our work with you for many more generations to come.

Fenton Firehouse #2 – Headquarters
While many construction managers divide project management duties among multiple personnel, creating potential gaps and leading to delays when issues arise, Lawlor Construction assigns a single primary Project Manager. This individual is responsible for all project aspects, from the initial design phase through final warranty conclusion, serving as the Owner’s single point of contact. This approach eliminates gaps in responsibility and ensures issues are addressed quickly and efficiently. Our Project Managers provide both office and field management.
